Every spring I search for the perfect easy, comfortable and stylish dresses that I can run around in all summer long. My touristy town definitely has a kind of dress code that comes along with it. Nothing too fancy, heels are typically frowned upon – if only for the fact that walking on a dock in them is nearly impossible – and anything that doesn’t look like you belong on the water makes you stick out like a sore thumb. Being who I am as a human, I don’t usually abide by these rules come summer, but it certainly has shaped how I buy for the season.
When I saw this embroidered chambray dress at Old Navy it screamed summer in good ol’ Bemus Point. This is the first of a few looks I’ve put together recently highlighting the lake I live on and my version of appropriate style for the summer. I styled this dress with my favorite Sperry’s! I wear these shoes to death nine months out of the year and I’m honestly surprised they still look as good as they do. They are the epitome of a stylish and really comfortable boat shoe and I throw them on as often as I can over the summer months. The color I’m wearing is ‘Ivory Canvas,’ but I think I might break down and get the ‘Burnished Navy’ color, too!
Another living-on-the-lake staple is a good tote. You never know when you’ll need a towel, a swim suit or sun tan lotion if you’re spending your days by the water. I found this straw tote on Amazon before I left for Charleston in March and it went with me everywhere! It isn’t huge, but it’s roomy and so cute and the perfect size for summer! I also spotted this beach tote in Target that I’m dying over! I might have to get it…
If chambray isn’t your thing then 1. You’re not human (I joke) and 2. There is a white version of this dress available as well. I almost picked that one up, too, but seeing as my affinity with blue and white this time of year is over the top, I opted for the chambray. Keep following along for more summer looks featuring my favorite place on earth coming in the next few weeks! I hope I can make you fall in love with my hometown like I did!
